Thing 23. Final Thoughts

I have completed it!! I did learn a lot it would be nice to see some more IT things in there for supporting computer in the library.

Thing 22. What Did I Learn Today?

I added the RSS feed ALATechsource. I agree that we need to do self- improvement. I also think that we should be allowed sometime at work to do this if it is related to our work. Keeping updated on the current changes and events in our professions will help us stay efficient in our work environment. If not everyone looses.

Thing 21. Beyond MySpace: Other Social Networks

I singed up for web junction doing this will allow me to learn about information from other that are dealing with the same type of problems that I am. I found other interesting groups for personal use that would be fun to be a part of and share knowledge.

Thing 20: Libraries and Social Networks

I have now created a Facebook page and Myspace account. Something I thought I would never do. But I could see so good of it there is some groups out there that I maybe able to learn something from. I will have to check it out more to see.

By just doing a little browsing around I can see a lot of libraries and groups associated to libraries that could share ideas. I added myself to some groups that I thought would be beneficial to my profession.

Thing 19: Podcasts

I listened to one of the memoirs for School Libraries I also listened to “An Interview with the Quintessential Children’s Librarian.”

I could see where there is some information that pertains to my job that it would be nice to have an RSS feed so that you could be updated when new information is added. I listened to a couple of pod casts and did have some good information.

Thing 18 You tube and other online vidoes

I could not find the about to add the link correctly so I did it this way

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_uOKFhoznI

I could spending a lot of time here watching videos. I could see where online videos could allow a presence so that younger user of the library could see what you have to offer to them and create and intrest in coming into the library.

Thing 17: ELM Productivity Tools

There is a lot more information available from ELM than I knew about I played around with some of the databases just to see what information I could find. I did learn that you need to be really specific or you information that does not pertain to what you are looking for.

I could also see they way they have it broke out in age specific groups that it would be most helpful to Liberians to direct patrons to where they need to look for information that will help them.

One thing I noticed that they videos for set up either don’t work or take about 10 – 15 minutes to load.

Thing 16: Student 2.0 Tools

I could see how this could benefit both teachers and students as the will instructors better define what students need for their finished paper. For the students this will help them make sure they are on task and have completed all the steps to help them with their paper.

Thing 15:

I am still not for sure where games have a place in the Library. I could see if the Games were educational but some of these appear not be. I looked at second life a but just did not appeal to me

Thing 14: Library Thing

I could see where this would be a useful tool for Liberians to use to keep current on the most popular books. Some of it I did not understand but I think that is because I do not work in that area. I did sigh up for the Library Thing. I was not able to upload anything to works for me.

Thing 13: Online productivty tools

It appears that some of the online tools are duplicating though some have different features so depending on what your need are you would need to find the tool that will work for you the best. I could see where some of the calendar would be helpful to share out information with other people that you work with. I even down loaded sticky notes just so that I can see if I can make it work for me. I like the count down clock that was nice.

Thing 10: Wikis

I really enjoyed looking at other Wiki pages it was a learning to see how others have created their Wiki’s. We use Wiki at our Library and it works really well for us but I seen some ideas that we could implement that just may make it better.

Limiting resources in some respects my be ok if they are abused. But limiting resources could just limit the amount of information that one can have to either make a better report or learn more about a project they may be working on.

Thing 10: Wikis

Thing 9: Online Collaboration Tools

At the present time I prefer to use Zoho as to me it was a little easier to use with out much knowledge than Google Docs. I could see this being a hand tool for those that don't have office suites.

Thing 3: RSS Feed

I think RSS feeds is a nice tool to use I plan on implementing this to notify me of important notices that I need to be aware of. I also see this being a useful tool to keep staff, students or friends updated on information that you would like to make them aware of. So this tool will be very useful.

Thing 8: Share your Creations

I could see a lot of potential for these sites for library uses they could show what services a library provide, training, and of text or IM that is helpful in communications. Some of the tools were easy to use some were still clunky and not functioning like I would expect them to. Some site I would recommend as I can see the benefit of their use.

Thing 12: Digg

Digg has a lot of topics to read it appears that Google could have some competition coming up.
These new news providers have an down to earth news reporters show the way it really is with out censoring. Librarians now have other sources for news

I feel these new presenters will enhance how new is presented as people will question the integrity of other new media when they put a spin on it.

Thing 7 Web 2.0 Tools

Our library use e-mail for most communications we use it for booking room, setting up appointments, reminder notes, and of course e-mail. I think many of the Web 2.0 tools can be very useful as they will help keep patrons up-to-date with all the programs that are available. Some of the tools is also a way for patrons to ask reference staff questions .

I watched videos about was how many different topics that ELMs has, I also watch some how to on different types of search methods using Mintix and ways to set up Google search with tabs and can even set it as a home page with different search links.

Thing 6: Online Image Generator

I could see where using these tool would help in creating appeal to specific age groups of patrons. I think this would greatly help in bringing patrons back to the Library. I could even see me creating things for home use.

Thing 4 & 5: Working with Flicker

The Flicker has a lot of neet toys to play with. I thing the puzzle one would be fun to do with outdoor pictures. The clockR would be nice to have at home on your PC for running a screen saver I would be cool. I am not that comfortable of sharing photos on line unless it is secure as I would like to manage whos see my pictures as long as I can do that I would be ok with it.

Thing 2: Web 2.0

I do believe that using new technology will be the way that most information is going to be accessed. There are many reasons that I think this will happen. One of them is the convenience of searching for information with out leaving your office or home. The information you need is easier to search that going through a lot of books or manuals. I also think that as our society starts to move away from comuting to do research because of the added expense of commuting the online information is more appealing.

Thing 1: Creating a blog

I have just complete creating my blog and even have it registered. I hope that I do get some responses to some of my blogs.

Thing 4: Flicker

I will enjoy using flicker it will be handy to share photos with releatives and friends. It will be easy for those that I don't see very often but want to show them photos that they would live to view. I will be careful though as I don't want everyone to see all my pictures so I will probably password protect them or use some other type of security.

Thing 3: RSS Feed

I think the RSS feed will be a handy tool. I plan on using this to keep me informed on information that will help me keep upto date.

Thing 1: 23 Bloging Project

Just starting the 23 things on a stick should be some intresting projects to go through.
